Movies That Inspire

I recently rewatched Legend starring: Tom Cruise (of scientology fame), Mia Sara (of Ferris Bueller's fame) and Tim Curry (of Rocky Horror fame)and I have to say that I still love and adore as much as ever. It has everything! Unicorns, a dark lord trying to steal sunlight, fairies, elves, true love, and some fighting with swords. And the make-up was pretty stellar for it being 1985. When I saw Tim Curry's name on the information I was in complete shock. I would have never guessed it was him underneath that red, monsterous costume.

It also took me way back to my childhood, the sense of nostalgia ever so close. I was suddenly ten again, sitting on my bed with my sister on a hot, sultry summer morning (I swear the only time TBS ever ran this movie was during the summer) thinking that it was ALL possible, that magic was real and one day I was going to find me a unicorn. And I still believe in that magic (fairies are real, I tell you!). It's the same feeling I get when I watch Labyrinth (I would stayed with David Bowie :)or even an old Disney movie. What about you, is there a movie out there that takes you back to that feeling of pure, innocent belief in all that's good and beautiful? That makes you want to recreate it in your own words for future generations?

  1. I was OBSESSED with unicorns as a kid. The unicorns in that movie always made me so excited.

  2. Also, Disney's Treasure Planet and the movie version of Neil Gaiman's Stardust never fail to give me the fuzzies and make me want to create similarly beautiful, funny stories.

  4. Legend and Labyrinth are two of my favorite movies of all time. There's magical. I can't remember how many times I watched them when I was young. I could say every one of Sarah's lines in Labyrinth! I also love The Last Unicorn.

  8. Even though they're not exactly old movies- Lord of the Rings totally makes me want to believe that other worlds exist. Or that our world used to be filled with Hobbits, Dwarves, and Elves (especially Legolas).

  9. I love watching Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Yes, it's about horses, but it is one of my favorites. :) The soundtrack is one I could listen to over and over again, too.

  10. The one movie that takes me back to my childhood is E.T.. Whenever I watch it, I can vividly remember the taste of cinnamon (I was obsessed with Big Red gum during that era) and playing outside, only returning home when the sun was just setting.

    (Love Legend and Labyrinth too!)

  12. I lived in Ciaraland most of my life. Teachers and parents hated it. No one thought about the fact I could write some of my ideas. Duh. :)

I know how that goes...sometimes living in your head, is more fun, but then again bringing that world to life can be just as fun...and aggravating :-)

  16. Ah, yes! First off, I LOVE Tim Curry. I think I've seen Clue about a billion times. Second of all, I still love The Goonies. I know, not identical but the feeling of adventure is still there. I love being able to lose myself in a movie like that and watching some of them now, through my kids eyes is even more fun:)
