How I did on last week's goals:
I'd say I had a successful week. My goals from last week were:
1. Add more romantic scenes between my two MCs in Fading: Check!
2. Add 1-2k on my psychological thriller: Well...I kind of succeeded. I did write almost 3k. But it was on a different project. Another YA contemporary.
My goal for this week:
1. Work on my query for Fading. This is going to be interesting since I SUCK at queries!
2. Add 1-2k on another project, probably my new contemporary since that's the one I'm feeling at the moment.
One word that sums up what I wrote/revised:
Sexy! It's still new and I need to revise it, which is why I'm not posting any lines...yet!
The biggest challenge I faced this week:
Impatience. I want to get everything done now! I want to be done with Fading so I can start querying, I want my first draft of my new project done so I can start revising. I had to take a step back and look at the big picture. Slowing it down so I can appreciate the process and continue to learn is what really matters. If I rush everything it'll show through my writing and my chances of landing an agent are slim to none.
Something I love about my WIP:
Second chances. Both my MCs have made mistakes and are trying to overcome them. I'm glad I get to watch them grow up and move on from those mistakes.
Awesome job on meeting last week's goals. Even though you didn't get the WC on the MS you thought you would, you still got good work done!
ReplyDeleteQueries are the worst! I know a good one when I see one, but I have no idea how to write one myself. Guess we all have to bite the bullet sometime, so extra, extra good luck with that goal this week. :D
I suffer from impatience too, Prerna! Publishing is pretty much the worst industry EVER for impatience, too, so I'm trying to chill out and take things as they come, when they come. Easier said than done! Best of luck with your contemp, lady!
ReplyDeleteI'm so, so impatient in general, but specifically when it comes to finishing my WiPs. I have so many story ideas, it's tough to keep plugging away at the same old thing. And I too stink at writing queries, so I feel your pain. Good luck with that this week!
ReplyDeleteI know that feeling well. I'm impatient but I think I hide it well. Ha. Good luck with your goals this week!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a fun writing week, especially considering "sexy" defines what you worked on! I hear you on the impatience. It's easy to burn out if you don't pace yourself, and like you say, it'll show in the writing if you rush. That's part of the reason I'm purposely a slow writer. Good for you for taking a step back to assess the big picture. Totally necessary to do once in a while. Good luck with your goals this week, especially the query writing!
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you want me to read your query. I hate them too, and I know how valuable feedback can be!
ReplyDeleteOh, impatience is something I'm still learning to deal with. Good luck to you with that! I can so relate. :) Also, yay for all the progress and all the writing! Hope you have another great week!
ReplyDeleteMy impatience starts the instant I start a new draft. I want it written ASAP. Then I wanted it revised NOW.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week with more kissing scenes :)
Yeah, that impatience can be a toughy. But it's better to step back and take time because it does only damage things in the end. Yay for meeting those goals! Good luck this next week
ReplyDeletei'm so impatient, but I'm learning to step back before I do something especially when the query is involved. I'm not good at it so I sent it to querydrill for a feedback... now the wait is tough, but I'm doing fine two days in.
ReplyDeleteI think you did great with your writing, writing more than you set yourself is just awesome. have a great week
p.s: do you have a CP?
