What's Up Wednesday

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme geared toward readers and writers, allowing us to touch base with blog friends and let them know what's up, put on by Jamie Morrow and Erin Funk. If you'd like to join click on the links above!

What I'm Reading:
The Book Thief. I am once again way behind on this one. With the movie releasing I figured I should pick the book up. This book packs an emotional punch. It's heart wrenching, beautiful, honest...there aren't enough words to describe what I feel when I'm reading it. I've teared up more than once. Truly an incredible story that transports you to the horrific events taking place.

What I'm Writing:
I'm pretty much done with revisions. Just in that stage of reading through one more time to make sure I didn't miss anything crucial. It's almost ready for beta readers. Exciting yet also terrifying. I mean, I really want to share this story and get honest and helpful feedback to make it stronger, but at the same time it's my baby and I always get nervous when receiving crits, whether they're positive or negative. I've also been working on two other projects at the same time. Yeah, I'm one of those ADD writers that needs several projects in order to not get bored. So far I'm loving both. They're both outside of my comfort zone and totally different from each other. One is a magical realism, the other a fantasy. With NaNo coming up I need to decide which one I want to focus on. I've decided I'm going to participate! Either way both these stories are for fun. I want to work on something that makes me stronger as a writer and isn't necessarily for others to read.

What Inspires Me Right Now:
Halloween! The pumpkins! The Costumes! The smell of burning wood in the air! Super excited to get things rolling by watching Hocus Pocus. (Fun fact Hocus Pocus was the first movie I ever saw in theaters and the first movie I ever saw in the US).

What Else I've Been Up To:
Packing. The kids are out of school on Thursday and Friday so we decided to tag along with the husband on one of his work trips. It's also convenient since he's going to be traveling near his parents and we'll able to see some family.

What have all of you been up to?

  1. I am also one of those multiple projects at once people. I think it's probably for the same reason you mention. That's awesome that you finished your revisions! Always a cause for celebration. October has got to be one of my most favourite months of the year, for all of the reasons you mention. Makes me want to watch a bunch of movies like Hocus Pocus and eat all the pumpkin goodies I can get my grabby hands on. I read THE BOOK THIEF last November and absolutely loved it. Such a unique way to tell a story, and the story itself was so, so good. Can't wait to see the movie. I hope you have a wonderful week and a fun mini-trip! :-)

  2. LOVE The Book Thief - though it's one of the few books that made me cry! I can't wait for the movie. Congrats on finishing your revisions! :)

Good luck picking a project for NaNo :D

  4. I also have a lot of "the Book Thief" love. I didn't realize they were doing a movie...I'm so out of touch with what's coming out. Great job on your revisions. Beta Read is always my favorite part!! Good luck!

  5. Yay for Nano! I've pretty much decided on a project for it, but that could change. I love this time of year, particularly as Halloween is coming up!

  6. I'm one of those multiple-project people, too. Or at least I am when I'm not in college. I need multiple things to hold my attention, or else I do nothing or get bored. And 'The Book Thief'...that was one of the few that was too depressing to finish. I wasn't ready for a sad book at the time; I had to put it down and finish it later. SO GOOD though. Are you planning to see the movie as well?

  7. I love having multiple projects on the go also. It keeps you thinking and if your not feeling a particular story you can always jump to one of the other ones.
I hope you have a lovely family trip and the rest of your week goes well also. :)

  8. I have done the multiple project thing - working on revisions while drafting something else - and it does work for me. Just depends where I'm at. These new projects of yours sound awesome! I love magical realism!

Also, I hear you on sending stuff out to betas. OH, do I hear you. BUT the trick is to find people who not only will help you become a better writer but who also GET your writing. I have been so lucky to find that with many of my CPs and I hope you find the same!

Hope you have a great week! Don't you just love October!

  9. I'm planning on reading THE BOOK THIEF to my son soon while he's learning about WWII and before the movie comes out. Such a great book and I hope I can get through reading it out loud without crying too many times.

I'm so jealous that you can work on more than one project at a time. I get tunnel vision when I write, so I can only focus on one story. Way to go on finishing up those revisions! I can relate on feeling nervous about sending stories off to betas. It's tough to even think about criticism when you've poured your heart into a manuscript. I hope you get some really helpful and encouraging feedback! :)

  10. I hope you all have an awesome trip! Fall and pumpkins are inspiring me too, though I'm really more of a summertime girl. I'm loving my autumn scented candles and teas, though! I adore THE BOOK THIEF. It's such a beautiful, moving story. I'm so excited to see what they do with the movie. Best of luck with your writing this week, Prerna!

  12. I can't wait to eat candy corn while watching Hocus Pocus. I can't wait for NaNoWriMo too. I want to read The Book Thief before I see the movie. Have a great weekend!

  13. Congrats on finishing your revisions (or being nearly there)! That's wonderful! And I loved THE BOOK THIEF. What a great book. I think I'll have to re-read that one before the movie comes out. :) Have a great week!
