What's Up Wednesday

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme geared toward readers and writers, allowing us to touch base with blog friends and let them know what's up, put on by Jamie Morrow and Erin Funk. If you'd like to join click on the links above!

What I'm Reading:
The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen, DUH!

What else would  I be reading after my first author encounter on Saturday? I'm loving it so far. Dessen has written about the fictional town of Colby so often I'm starting to think it's real. Well, at least in my head it is. Seriously, I can perfectly picture the whole town after reading all of her books, and I really wish it was an actual place I could visit.

What I'm Writing:
I'm starting revisions on Restoring Casey (the hard, printed copy), which is one step closer to getting it beta read. My goal is to have the revisions done by mid-July. Pretty crazy stuff. Meanwhile, I'm fighting the urge to start on another project that has been nagging at me. I did an outline for it already, which is highly unusual for a pantser like me, but I had to do something to get it out of my head. But still it persists. I'm hoping to start it as soon as the revisions to Restoring Casey are done.

What Inspires Me Right Now:

I signed up for Ready. Set. Write, if you want to know what that's all about CLICK HERE. I'm super excited to have so serious motivation while I dive head first into revisions. I'm hoping by the end of the summer I'll be pretty close the querying stage! Ah!

What Else I've Been Up To:
Cleaning. A lot. We have guests coming to stay with us this weekend and I'm in cleaning overdrive. I'm sort of neurotic about it when I know people will see my house. I focus on certain parts of the house on the different days, and if they get dirty in between, well, hair pulling might be involved. My husband knows this and tries his hardest not to be the reason the house gets all messy, which he tends to be more so than the kids at times!

So what have you been up to?

  1. I feel like I've heard a lot of good about Sarah Dessen lately. I'll have to check her out and see if I'm interested in her books.

Getting close to Beta reading time, eh? That's awesome! Congrats! I hope your readers give you great feedback that builds the strength of your story. And good luck with the editing before that step! Fun times.

Oh, cleaning. The cleaning before guests come is always the most stressful for me. I am pretty laid back with cleaning, to the chagrin of my sister who I live with, but guests coming over is when I definitely step it up a notch and do more. Good luck with that, too!

  3. Lol! I've given up cleaning the house until the last hours before the guests come because it just gets dirty again. So frustrating :)
Yay for those revisions. Getting to the beta stage is always so exciting - like one's finally accomplished something. Can't wait to see you get to querying stage!

    1. I've been there! In fact, I'm sure I'll have to do some last minute cleaning even with the prep, such is the joy of having 4 little ones.

  6. You know, I've never read a Sarah Dessen book but I feel like I should? Glad you're enjoying your read! :)

Like you, I'm totally pumped about Ready.Set.Write! and I hope it forces me to actually get some stuff done. I'm also a pantser too, but I also weirdly did a sorta outline for one of my WIPs (I think I was trying to figure out a plot point). So it's going to be interesting having this sort-of road map.

Good luck with your writing goals and with cleaning! (I so need to do a big house cleaning...)

    1. Yup, I love her. If you decide to pick something of hers up, then I hope you do too. I hope our outlines help our pantsing selves out!

  7. Oh my goodness - I both love and hate when people stay with us because yes - my house gets super clean, but I'm also so neurotic (and slightly evil) until it gets clean. So - good luck with that! :)

Also, awesome goals for the summer! SO glad you've joined us for Ready. Set. WRITE! I hope you have a wonderful writing week!

    1. I know exactly what you mean, I love seeing friends and family, but the prep before and clean-up after can take a lot out of you.

  8. You remind me that I SHOULD be cleaning up right now. Thankfully I am not expecting any houseguests, so I can continue to wallow. :0) Hooray for Sarah Dessen. She is the greatest!

  9. It's always scary to think about querying, isn't it? But it's a great motivator--I hope you can meet your goal by the end of summer!

  11. Oh boy, I did my house cleaning yesterday. Not fun, but I wanted to get it out of the way before starting Ready. Set. WRITE! Good luck with your summer revisions, and I hope you get to work on that new story idea really soon!

    1. Cleaning is never fun, unless you're Monica Gellar. Thanks for the encouragement, will definitely need it as revisions start taking a toll.

  12. Hey, I could use some cleaning over here ... want to offer yourself? =D hehe
Oooo, shiny new ideas that won't go away. Love those!

  13. House cleaning has got to be one of my least favorite things, but when I do it, I'm kind of a maniac about it. I've only read a couple of Dessen's books, but I enjoyed them. I've got a few more in the TBR waiting for me.

    Good luck with your revisions.

  14. I just got a copy of THE MOON AND MORE! Next on my list. I've really been looking forward to that one.
Call me crazy, but I love cleaning my apartment. And it is never cleaner than when I'm facing some revisions down. :)

  16. Yay, Team Querying! One of my goals is to start querying this summer, so it's nice to meet people who will be there, too :)

I know how pesky those SNIs can be! I usually deal with them by making Pinterest boards and Spotify playlists.

Good luck with your writing goals!
