What's Up Wednesday

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme geared toward readers and writers, allowing us to touch base with blog friends and let them know what's up, put on by Jamie Morrow and Erin Funk. If you'd like to join click on the links above!

What I'm Reading:
I finished up A Mad Wicked Folly and was quite happy with that read. Now I'm working on Untold, the sequel to Unspoken! It's exciting to know there's only one book left in this series so I won't be waiting YEARS to find out what happens.

What I'm Writing:
YA Bucaneers are running a Spring Writing Bootcamp and I'm very excited to take part. I want to revise my WIP and finish up drafting my new story. I'm 4k in already. I'm supposed to be taking a break, but can't seem to get away from this new idea. When inspiration is flowing you have to quench the thirst.

What Inspires Me Right Now:
This new idea. Any idea, really, that gets me writing. There are so many stories waiting to be told, we just have to sit down and write them. That's quite inspiring.

What Else I've Been Up To:
I watched A Little Princess yesterday. It's one of my all time favorite movies. When I was a kid I'd watch it over and over and over again. My girls aren't quite old enough to appreciate it, but I can't wait until they understand the message: that we're all Princesses. That we're all special and can overcome any hardship. I love that Sarah uses her imagination to escape the horrible things that befall her. I'm surprised I haven't read the book so I downloaded it onto my Kindle last night and can't wait to read it.

That's all folks, what's up with you?

  1. I love getting new ideas, they really are inspiring.
I love A Little Princess, I haven't seen it in years though! I need to remedy that, really, and get myself a copy.

  5. I love A Little Princess! I haven't watched the movie or read the book in ages but it's one I should watch with my oldest daughter at least. (I just looked at my shelf and realized I own it on VHS. VHS!!! Guess I need to look for it on DVD somewhere.)

  6. I loved Unspoken and Untold - can't wait for the final book in the series!

I find that I get the most ideas when I'm supposed to be taking a break. :P Inspiration strikes when you least expect!

  7. I haven't watched A Little Princess in years. It's a lovely film.

  8. I joined Spring Writing Book Camp too. I really think it's going to help. I need the focus. Ha. I bought A Mad Wicked Folly. I can't wait to read it. Have a great weekend!

  9. I love A LITTLE PRINCESS so much. More than A SECRET GARDEN, I think. You're making me want to re-read it and watch the movie again! I really have to agree with you on not having to wait too long for the finale of the UNSPOKEN series. I'm reading three different series that have 4-6 books in them and are all only about two books in. It's kind of making me crazy when I think about how long I'm going to have to wait to read them all. I mean, it's great having books to look forward to, but it's also nice to finish up a series sometimes. New story ideas are the best! Especially because they come with all kinds of excitement. I wish I could recapture that feeling in the midst of a truly nasty revision lol. Have a great week, Prerna!

  10. Spring Writing Book Camp looks great. I'm not at a place to sign up yet but if they have another one later on in the year I am so there. Have a great week.

  11. I hope you enjoy UNTOLD as much as I did. I thought it was a great follow up to UNSPOKEN, and I'm eager for the third book. Such a unique trilogy!

You know, I don't think I've ever read the book THE LITTLE PRINCESS, which surprises me. I love the Alfonso Cuaron movie. Not sure if that's the version you watched or not, but it's so good. I've been meaning to read my son THE SECRET GARDEN, so I should get around to that some time.

Writing breaks are futile, aren't they? It's awesome that you're so drawn to this new idea. Writing is a ton of work, but sometimes it's refreshing too. Have a great week, Prerna!

  12. I'd say it's a good sign when you're supposed to be taking a break but keep writing because you're so excited about an idea. And that kind of excitement makes for a better book. Good luck hitting all of your goals. Having accountability helps so much!

  13. I'm going to do the YA Buccaneers Bootcamp, too! Have fun working on your shiny new idea. That honeymoon period of a new idea is one of the best feelings in the world.

  15. I've been meaning to read A Mad, Wicked Folly. :) The cover's gorgeous!

Ah, I love A Little Princess - I read the book last summer and loved it. There are some differences between the film and the book but the message is still the same.

  16. I understand what you mean about rolling with the ideas when they come--it's hard to take a break when the story demands to be told! All the best with that, Prerna, and with the Spring Boot Camp! :)

  17. Oh my gosh, I haven't thought of A Little Princess in ages! I so loved that book. I can't think if I ever watched the movie. I may have to re-read the book, though, now that you've got me thinking about it. :) Good luck with your boot camp goals!
