What's Up Wednesday

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme geared toward readers and writers, allowing us to touch base with blog friends and let them know what's up, put on by Jamie Morrow and Erin Funk. If you'd like to join click on the links above!

What I'm Reading:
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. I've only seen the movie and wanted desperately to read the book because I loved it so much. Verdict? The book is just as good if not better. Obviously, like most movies, it left out certain details that I appreciate very much in imagining the world created.  Sometimes I don't get why movie people leave out certain plot lines that only serve to make the story stronger. I like Sophie, she's a sympathetic character that doesn't put up with any of Howl's nonsense. I love how she comes to her own once the spell is put on her and stops caring about what others think. It's a really fun book and makes me feel like a kid again. It's one I can't wait to share with my kids.

What I'm Writing:
I haven't gotten as much writing done as I would have liked. We had family in town this weekend and I prepping for them most of last week. My husband was also in Colorado when the floods hit and barely made it out before things got really bad. Thankfully he's back safe and I know not everyone over there is that lucky. I'm setting a goal for next week to have the next major revisions done. There aren't that many, just one that really is kicking my butt at the moment.

What Inspires Me Right Now:
Sweaters, jeans, boots, hot chocolate, pumpkins....I see a pattern forming here. I love fall and it's cooling down over here. I can't wait to finally stop using our sprinklers and stop mowing our lawn every weekend. Of course there's all those leaves to round up, but I enjoy raking, it's good exercise and I love the smell of fallen leaves.

What Else I've Been Up To:
Trying to catch up on my sleep. It's my favorite pass time. And potty training. I won't go into the nitty gritty details, but it's been quite the adventure. I've already potty trained two boys so a girl kind of threw me for a loop, but it's going well. So I'm pretty much up to the mommy things in life, not that it's a bad thing, but I'm so ready to dive back into my writing.

  1. Thank goodness your husband made it out of Colorado before things got bad - it looked pretty awful on the news. And I wish you all the luck with potty training! And the revision!

    Have a great week!

  3. I haven't read or seen HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE, but I've heard of it. I might have to check it out now. Wow! It's a good thing your husband got out in time. I can't imagine how stressful that must have been. Here's hoping this week is less busy and that you can get back to your revisions. Today is finally grey, rainy, and chilly. Perfect fall weather! Love it.

Have a great week, Prerna! :-)

  6. Glad to hear your husband got out safe!

Oh, I LOVE Howl's Moving Castle. I saw the movie first too and was told that the book was quite different (it is), but I think the movie does a great job of keeping to the SPIRIT of the book. I think there are aspects of the book that work very well in the book but probably wouldn't translate well to film. Both are wonderful though, so I'm glad you liked them! :)

Hope you get back to your writing soon, and good luck with the potty training! I'm excited for Fall too, but since I do also love Summer, I'm sad that's ending!

    1. Thanks! Glad to know you love HMC as well. The movie is great, too. I think as separate works they're very inspiring and original. And, yes, there were certain things that wouldn't have been able to make it up on screen, but I'm really glad I read the book!

  13. Fall is amazing! I love summer, but once the days shorten and the air cools, I finally accept the transition and remember how much I love HOT CHOCOLATE.

Keep on being a great mother! And the writing will find itself back into your life =)

  14. I adore fall. I wish it got cooler here but it's still fall :) I'm potty training right now too. I've been up taking a two year old to the bathroom every few minutes since 4a.m. Yay. lol. I hope that your little one catches on quick!

  15. Oh, I loved Howl's Moving Castle! So imaginative.

And I'm with you, I bought my first pumpkin yesterday...even though it's still a bazillion degrees outside and it will melt into a pumpkin-y puddle by Halloween. (Couldn't help myself) :)
